Our Story

OUR STORY

The HeArt centre is run by a group of very dedicated and sincere volunteers, all family people and orientated towards unity in the family and community.  We are all from different walks of life with diverse experiences and skills, mostly educationalist in profession.

We are a wholly non-profit Centre run to serve the community in Birmingham with some out-reach and interfaith programmes.

We started the Centre to address the following issues:

Muslims are being misrepresented, and the general public has a poor opinion of Muslims and Islam. Other people with extreme views are hijacking our religion, and the youth are in danger of being drawn to them. Muslims should do their best, to fulfil their full potential, and therefore becoming useful contributors in the community and greater society.

We see a need:

For developing the knowledge and identity of Muslims for a more peaceful and moderate Islam.  To empower them to be able to mix with and contribute to the community and society of the UK.  To overcome misunderstandings amongst the community and to build bridges through the arts and the Prophetic ways.  Utilise the skills and passion of respected professionals in helping all people to gain equal footing.  Utilise the best of western education techniques and pedagogy as tools for education. Convey the Prophetic ways of peace, harmony and acceptance for women and men and not to be discriminatory in sex, ethnicity or race and culture.

The activities we run are primarily focused on the above through:

  • Weekly Dhikr for all families and people of faith and others.
  • The Creative Muslim School of Learning madrassah for children and the youth.
  • Workshops for women in subjects of health and well being.
  • Quarterly ladies Dhikr.
  • Creative and interactive workshops for youth in learning about their relationship with the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Mawlids in celebration of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during the month of Rabi-al-Awaal, prayer and worship on special occasions, taraweeh prayer in Ramadhan.
  • Also we host visitors and scholars from all over the world to give talks on a wide range of topics relevant to all ages.
  • We have recently developed a library as a resource for the HeArt Centre.
  • We have run many interfaith programmes.
  • A soup kitchen for the homeless in Birmingham.
